Tower Defense X: BETA Best Tower Defense X Loadouts
Named builds and mode-specific six-tower setups for solo and co-op.
A Tower Defense X loadout is six towers chosen before the first wave—no mid-match swaps. The best loadouts balance economy, horde control, stealth, boss DPS, and support buffs for a specific mode and map. This guide names community-proven builds, explains when to use them, and links to tier rankings on the Tier List Hub and placement advice on Map Strategy.
TDX supports online co-op with dual-path upgrades and tower HP mechanics. Released November 21, 2023 on Roblox, the game now spans Easy through Nightmare Mode. Redeem Codes before grinding gold for expensive towers. New players start with Getting Started and the Beginner Tier List.
Universal loadout framework
Every strong six-tower set covers five roles:
- Starter — Cheap early DPS (John, Operator, Ranger, Laser Gunner).
- Economy — Farm or Mobster bounties.
- Crowd control — Shotgunner, Grenadier, Missile Trooper splash.
- Boss killer — Railgunner, Juggernaut, Golden Juggernaut, Missile Trooper 5-X.
- Support — EDJ buffs, Medic heals, stealth from Laser Gunner or Ghost.
Upgrade depth beats tower count. One 3-X Missile Trooper outperforms three base copies on most maps.
Easy Mode: Shotgun Shell
Towers: Shotgunner + Ranger (expand to bottom-path variants later).
Shotgunner shreds early hordes; Ranger handles Plague Doctor and bullet-resistant stragglers. Bottom-path Ranger grenades clean boss summons. Bottom-path Shotgunner unstuns towers during Plague Doctor abilities. Solo Easy on forgiving maps like Oil Rig or Ancient Sky Island. Add Farm if you want faster gold for unlocks—not required for clears.
Intermediate: Round About
Towers: Operator, Farm, Missile Trooper, Shotgunner (optional Ranger).
Operator or Ranger opens waves 1–10. Start Farm around waves 5–10 when defense feels safe. Missile Trooper is your boss punch—15–25 upgraded copies late game kill Predator and Eradicator. Top-path Shotgunner heals 30% nearby tower HP on ability for Predator tower damage. Pair with Beginner Tier List unlock order.
Intermediate: Metal Muncher
Towers: Shotgunner, Mine Layer, Farm, Missile Trooper.
Swap Ranger for Mine Layer on long maps with straight segments. Mines supplement boss damage; Shotgunner keeps towers healed under Predator pressure. Rush Missile Trooper for bullet-resistant enemies in early-mid waves. Weak on short maps—check Map Strategy first.
Intermediate: Farlands
Towers: Barracks, Patrol Boat, Grenadier (if no water), Farm, Missile Trooper.
Most map-dependent beginner build. Requires water and long paths. Barracks and Patrol Boat carry early-to-mid bosses if microed well. Grenadier replaces Patrol Boat on land-only maps. Excellent on Oil Rig–style layouts; avoid Chalet-like short paths.
Elite Mode notes
Elite punishes Farm-heavy loadouts—damage cash is high and No Cash enemies appear often. Prefer Shotgunner, Grenadier, Missile Trooper, Laser Gunner, and Sniper without dedicating a slot to Farm unless co-op assigns economy to one player. Horde control matters past wave 20.
Expert: Fort Classic
Towers: Laser Gunner and/or John (starter), Farm, EDJ, Railgunner, Juggernaut.
The community reference for Expert on a budget. John spams cheap bait; Laser Gunner handles stealth air. Farm funds Railgunner bottom-path investments; EDJ discounts and range-buffs the boss line. Juggernaut or Golden Juggernaut finishes Destructor and Eradicator MK II+. Full walkthrough: How to Beat Expert. Path tiers: Expert Tier List.
Swap Juggernaut for Golden Juggernaut when unlocked. Add Medic or Shield Tower in co-op by dropping John spam on later waves.
Endless loadout principles
No single named loadout fits every Endless map. Core six often includes double economy (Farm + EDJ or Mobster), Golden Juggernaut, Warship or XWM Turret on water maps, Laser Gunner for pre-40 resist coverage, and Medic. See Endless Tier List for scaling priorities past wave 130.
Nightmare loadout sketch
Nightmare restricts normal power-ups to nightmare power-ups only and stacks every major Xenon Eradicator boss. Community clears lean on Golden Mobster early eco, Refractor, Behemoth Factory, XWM Turret, Golden Juggernaut, EDJ, Shield Tower, Medic, War Machine Factory, and AA Turret for air—often beyond six slots via co-op specialization. Treat Nightmare as four-player content unless highly invested solo.
Co-op loadout coordination
Before wave one, assign:
- Economy player: Farm + EDJ bottom path.
- Stealth player: Laser Gunner rush.
- Boss player: Railgunner or Golden Juggernaut focus.
- Flex player: Missile Trooper, Medic, or map-specific water tower.
Avoid placing all boss killers on the same choke without lane split coverage.
Loadouts to avoid
Six DPS towers with no Farm on Expert. No stealth detection on Intermediate plus. Barracks on short straight maps. Farm in solo Elite when horde slots are mandatory. Copying Endless builds before owning Golden Juggernaut.
After balance patches, verify costs on Rebalance and revisit Towers Overview for roster changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best all-around TDX loadout?
Fort Classic for Expert (Laser Gunner, John, Farm, EDJ, Railgunner, Juggernaut). For progression, Round About on Intermediate is the most efficient grind loadout.
How many towers should I upgrade vs place fresh?
Upgrade primary DPS and economy first. Only spam John or cheap starters as expendable bait in Expert and above.
Can I beat Expert without Golden Juggernaut?
Yes. Fort Classic uses normal Juggernaut. Golden Juggernaut simplifies bullet-resistant bosses but is not mandatory for first Expert clears.
Which loadout works on every map?
None. Farlands needs water; Metal Muncher needs long paths. Check Map Strategy and adjust water or summoner slots.
Should co-op teams run duplicate Farms?
Usually one Farm player is enough through Expert. Endless co-op sometimes runs two Farms before wave 40 for upgrade funding.
Where do loadouts change after updates?
Rebalance patches shift upgrade costs and damage. Re-read Best Loadouts and Expert Tier List after major Updates Hub posts.
