Tower Defense X: BETA Tower Defense X Tier List Hub
Path-by-path rankings for the current meta across Easy through Nightmare.
Tower Defense X rewards players who understand dual upgrade paths, not just raw tower names. Every unit in the roster splits into a top path and a bottom path, and those choices often matter more than whether a tower sits in S-tier or A-tier on paper. This hub summarizes the current meta tier list for Tower Defense X: BETA as of 2026, then points you to specialized breakdowns for beginner progression, Expert Mode pressure, and Endless scaling.

How we rank towers
Our tier list evaluates both upgrade paths on four axes: solo viability, co-op value, boss damage, and scaling into Expert, Endless, and Nightmare. A tower can be S-tier in one mode and B-tier in another. EDJ is the clearest example: it deals zero damage but remains S-tier because range buffs, fire-rate buffs, and upgrade discounts define late-game economy.
We also weigh tower HP mechanics introduced in Intermediate and above. Towers can be stunned, damaged, and destroyed by bosses and special enemies. Support picks like Medic, Shield Tower, and top-path Shotgunner healing matter as much as DPS when ranking paths for Expert and Endless.
S-tier overview
These paths define the current meta and appear in most high-level clears:
- EDJ (both paths) — Top path extends range and fire rate for nearby towers; bottom path discounts upgrades up to 30%. Mandatory support for Railgunner, Juggernaut, and Golden Juggernaut lines.
- Laser Gunner — Fast single-target DPS with stealth detection on key upgrades. Excels against armored enemies and supplements Railgunner when stealth is active.
- Railgunner bottom path — Massive piercing damage and stun immunity at max investment. Boss killer for Expert; pair with EDJ and stealth reveal from Laser Gunner or Ghost.
- Juggernaut / Golden Juggernaut — Short-range boss shredders. Golden Juggernaut ignores bullet resistance; normal Juggernaut fills the role until you unlock the golden variant.
- John top path — Cheap bait tower plus late-game damage amplification for Railgunner and Juggernaut stacks.
- Missile Trooper — Early-to-mid progression staple with bullet-resistance bypass and strong 5-X boss damage. Less Endless-focused but excellent through Expert.
- Farm — Wave-based economy tower. Core in Easy, Intermediate, Expert, and Endless when you need upgrade funding; skip or reduce in Elite where damage cash is enough.
A-tier overview
Strong, flexible paths that slot into most loadouts:
- Warship and XWM Turret — Map-dependent water and placement towers with enormous late-game output on long maps.
- Toxicnator and Artillery — Area denial and splash for horde waves in Elite and early Endless.
- Mobster bottom path — Bounty economy alternative to Farm in Expert when enemies grant limited cash.
- Medic and Shield Tower — Tower survival support; climb toward S-tier value on Expert, Endless, and Nightmare.
- Operator and Shotgunner — New-player friendly horde control; top-path Shotgunner heals nearby towers by 30% on ability use.
- Sniper — Long-range single target for flying enemies and boss summons in Elite and Expert.
B-tier and below
B-tier paths are situational or map-locked: Barracks and Patrol Boat dominate on long curved maps with water but underperform on short straight layouts. Ranger and Grenadier carry early Intermediate clears but fall off without resistance-ignore upgrades. Mine Layer rewards patient players on lengthy paths. Cryo Blaster stalls multipliers but cannot freeze them. C-tier and below includes cosmetic-heavy or highly niche picks—fun in Easy, rarely optimal for Expert or Endless pushes.

- Endless Tier List — Scaling picks beyond wave 40, shield-breaking tools, and bosses through wave 201.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What are the best S-tier towers in TDX right now?
EDJ, Laser Gunner, Railgunner bottom path, Juggernaut, Golden Juggernaut, John top path, Missile Trooper, and Farm form the current S-tier core. Exact path choice depends on mode and map.
Does tier list rank whole towers or individual paths?
Both. TDX uses dual paths per tower, so we rank top and bottom routes separately when they diverge sharply—Railgunner bottom is S-tier while top is situational, for example.
Which tier list should beginners read first?
Start with the Beginner Tier List for unlock order, then return here for S/A/B summaries. Pair it with Getting Started and Best Loadouts before pushing Expert.
How often does the TDX meta change?
Top Down Games ships regular balance updates. Check the Updates Hub and Rebalance page after each patch; S-tier paths can shift when upgrade costs or damage values change.
Is Farm still S-tier if Elite Mode gives enough cash?
Farm drops in value on Elite where damage income is high, but stays S-tier for Expert, Endless, and most co-op grinds that need heavy upgrade funding.
